What happens when you commandeer the upper levels of a JW Marriott and turn it into a boutique hotel? You get people who stay to gain respect from their architecture and design friends, but miss out on having a nice pool. That’s not a bad tradeoff, considering how unique it is just to get inside—you enter not so much a lobby but a landing strip for an escalator up a long passageway that will remind you of the secret shaft inside the pyramids. The views are spectacular, the location is superb and the drinks at the bar are yummy, but the elevator is too bright. No, really. It’s blinding.
