Insert pirate joke here: San Francisco theme bar and Tiki culture have reached their highest expression, with fully baked retro concept, décor and artisanal rum menu. In tiny former Jade space, enter a dark, windowless cave full of authentic, salvaged nautical artifacts. Owner Martin Kate is serious (even downright academic) about rum and its role in history; Smuggler's Cove offers a club of sorts where return visitors can achieve various levels of familiarity with over 200 vintage rums, including some extremely rare varieties. The Top Notch Volcano for two is a flaming sight to behold, though we roll with the $120 shots of 200-year old Royal Navy Imperial rum.
