Crunch

Editorial Review

New York's homegrown gym chain got start in 1989 East Village basement, a far off time when people did aerobics and wore sweatbands sincerely. Now two decades on, most O.G. Crunchers jumped treadmills to slicker franchises that sprung up in wake (cough, Equinox). But still draws masses to double-digit locations via questionable advertising, frugal(er) pricing, kooky classes. Including Bed Head pajama yoga and Turning Tricks: an advanced pole-dancing sess that will come in handy next time you're under pimp-arrest.
