The Langham Hotel in Pasadena is a pretty rarefied world: all expensive elegance everywhere you turn. The Chuan spa, hidden deep within, is even more exclusive and rather exotic. Specializes in spa treatments of a Chinese origin, meaning they're results-oriented. Not necessarily relaxing. Try acupuncture, or if you prefer it hot, cupping. Perhaps a bit painful, but at least you can stare at the flawless Oriental decor.
